There's no magic number of hours. What matters is focused hours, NCERT mastery and lots of practice. Here's a realistic structure. Rough daily hours - Class 11 (with school): 3 to 5 focused hours outside school. - Class 12 (with school): 4 to 6 hours, more on weekends. - Drop year: 7 to 9 focused hours, with breaks and one lighter day a week. Forty-five minutes of real concentration beats two hours of half-attention. The NEET pattern in short: physics, chemistry and biology from the Class 11 and 12 NCERT syllabus, with biology carrying the most weight. Check the NTA information bulletin for the current pattern and marking.

Follow-up: How should I study each subject? - Biology: NCERT line by line. Read, make short notes, revisit diagrams, and solve topic questions straight after. Most biology questions come directly from NCERT ideas. - Chemistry: NCERT for inorganic and organic reactions; formula practice for physical chemistry. - Physics: understand concepts, then practise numericals daily. This is where most students lose marks.

Follow-up: When should I start mock tests? - From mid-Class 11: chapter tests every week. - From Class 12: full syllabus mocks once every 1–2 weeks, increasing to 2–3 a week in the final three months. - Analyse every mock. Write down why each mistake happened (concept, silly, time). That analysis is where improvement comes from.

Follow-up: How do I balance boards and NEET? NEET and board syllabi largely overlap. Plan board-specific practice (long answers, practicals) in the 6 to 8 weeks before boards, then return to NEET mode. Board marks matter for eligibility, so don't ignore them.

Follow-up: I keep losing motivation. What helps? - Small daily targets instead of huge weekly ones. - A fixed sleep time. Sleep is when memory consolidates. - A short exercise break every day. - One friend or study partner for accountability.
