Psychology is a great field if you're curious about why people think and act the way they do. The path depends on which kind of psychologist you want to be. Step 1: Bachelor's (3 or 4 years) B.A. or B.Sc Psychology. Any stream can apply. Many universities admit through CUET-UG. Step 2: Master's (2 years) M.A./M.Sc in clinical, counselling, organisational, educational or another specialisation. Step 3: Professional qualification (for clinical work) To practise as a clinical psychologist, which means diagnosing and treating mental disorders, you need a qualification recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and RCI registration. The required RCI-approved programme has changed over time, so check RCI's current rules. Types of psychology careers - Clinical psychologist: hospitals, clinics, private practice (RCI registration needed). - Counselling psychologist: schools, colleges, wellness centres, online platforms. - Organisational psychologist: HR, hiring, workplace wellbeing. - School psychologist, sports psychologist, researcher, UX researcher. Note: a short online certificate doesn't make someone a licensed psychologist. Check credentials when choosing a therapist too.
