Here's the full route, so nothing surprises you later. 1. Class 11–12: take PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) with English. NEET-UG eligibility requires these subjects, with a minimum aggregate in PCB set by NMC (50% for general category; lower for reserved categories; check the current NTA bulletin). You must be at least 17 by 31 December of the admission year. 2. Prepare for NEET-UG. NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) once a year and is the single entrance for MBBS, BDS and AYUSH courses across India, including AIIMS and JIPMER. It's based on the Class 11 and 12 NCERT syllabus. NCERT books, especially biology, are the backbone of preparation. 3. Counselling. MCC runs counselling for All India Quota seats (15% of government seats, plus central and deemed universities). State authorities run the remaining state-quota seats. 4. MBBS: about 5.5 years. Four and a half years of study plus a one-year compulsory rotating internship. 5. Licence and specialisation. To practise and to get into postgraduate courses (MD/MS), you'll take the national exam NMC specifies (currently NEET-PG, with NExT planned to replace it; check NMC for the latest). 6. Specialise (optional but common). MD/MS takes about 3 years, then super-speciality (DM/MCh) if you want. So realistically: around 10 to 12 years from Class 11 to becoming a specialist. It's long, but it's also one of the most meaningful careers there is. Start now: build strong Class 10 science basics, and read NCERT Class 11 biology early.
