Commerce opens more doors than most people think. Here are the main groups. Professional qualifications - Chartered Accountant (CA) through ICAI: Foundation, Intermediate, Final plus practical training. Demanding but highly respected. - Company Secretary (CS) through ICSI. Starts with CSEET. - Cost and Management Accountant (CMA) through ICMAI. - Actuarial science through the Institute of Actuaries of India (needs strong maths). Degrees - B.Com (Hons): base for finance, accounting, banking. Many central universities admit through CUET-UG. - BBA / BMS: management and business roles. IPMAT gets you into 5-year IIM programmes. - B.A. Economics: great if you had maths. Leads to policy, research, analytics. Growing fields - Finance and investment: financial analysis, equity research, wealth management (NISM certifications matter here). - Business and data analytics: commerce plus Excel, SQL and Power BI is a strong combination. - Digital marketing, e-commerce, entrepreneurship. Other routes - Law (CLAT / BA LLB, BBA LLB), hotel management, design, banking exams after graduation, and civil services. Maths or no maths? If you didn't take maths, CA, CS, BBA and law are still open. Economics honours and actuarial science usually need maths. Pick based on what kind of work you'd enjoy daily: numbers and rules (CA/CMA), people and business (BBA), or law and policy (CS, law). Guidopia's Career DNA can help you see which of these your strengths fit.

Follow-up: How do I choose between CA, a degree and a job-focused skill? Ask yourself three things: - Do I enjoy accounting and tax rules? If yes, CA or CMA is worth the long exam journey. Check ICAI's and ICMAI's sites for the current scheme. - Do I want a broad business career and maybe an MBA later? Then a good B.Com, BBA or economics degree through CUET-UG, plus internships, works well. - Do I want to start earning early? Combine a degree with practical skills like Tally and GST, advanced Excel, or digital marketing, and do part-time internships. Many students combine these, for example a B.Com alongside CA Foundation, but watch your time. Burnout from doing too much is a common reason students drop out.
